Douglas "Doug" Scott Oakes

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Betty (Fritz) Oakes. He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Oakes (Breault) of 41 years; children Katherine Oakes and Alan Oakes; brother, David and Sandra (Roering) Oakes; sister, Linda (Oakes) and Robert Reiling; Debra’s family, and many other relatives and friends. Doug loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Doug grew up on the east side of St. Paul, made Eagle Scout and played football at Harding High School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a mechanical engineering degree and went on to be a part owner in a local mechanical contracting company. Doug retired early, owned a condo on Clearwater Beach FL, and traveled to many places throughout the world. He loved to cook gourmet meals, spend time painting in his home studio and watching all the animals that frequently visited his back yard.

Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Lake Elmo Event Center, 3712 Layton Ave N., Lake Elmo MN, visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials received will be donated to the University of Minnesota for kidney research.
