

He was born on March 21, 1933 to Helen (Vonderheide) and Parnell (Punt) Johnson at their home in Underwood, North Dakota. Gene’s wife, Carol (Keuchel), a great grandchild, both parents and his brother, Jerry, preceded him in death. He is survived by his two daughters Jennifer (William) Aamodt of Woodbury and Allison Johnson of Minneapolis, two sons Christopher Johnson of Burnsville and Jeffery (Kristen) Johnson of Northfield, five grandchildren Ben (Clair), Nick (Jaime) and Molly Johnson and Pauline (Josh) Holman and Maggie (Jacob) Iiams and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Ross of Foley, MN and four brothers Tom (Judy) of Bismarck, ND, Chuck (Sharon) of Green Valley, AZ, Larry (Joan) of Rockford, MN and Lee of Fargo, ND.
Gene graduated from Underwood High School, the University of Detroit and the University of Michigan. He was a mechanical engineer with and retired from 3M Company in St Paul, MN. After college, he served two years in the Army in Alaska. He was a funny guy and loved to make people laugh. It was a rare moment that he wasn’t smiling.
On Friday, October 24th at 10am a gathering with a small ceremony (10:30) and a light lunch will be held at Talamore Senior Living in Woodbury, MN.
His ashes will be buried at Carol’s family burial site, Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Geneva, WI next spring.
