My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.

In memory of Howard Salley;

I never got a chance to meet you personally, but I got to know you indirectly through your daughter Kim.  Although some people would say it's not possible, I believe that you can tell a lot about a person by knowing their children.  Children pick up a lot from their parents over the years, and it is quite obvious to me that you were a wonderful person.   Your daughter Kim is a very loving and caring person who often will put down what she is doing to listen to someone who is going through a tough time.  She always has the time for others and she really cares about other people.  It isn't superficial either - it runs deep within her right down to the core.

From the stories of you she has told me, you were always the loving and caring father and she was always making sure that both you and your wife were ok.  Returning the love of your parents by caring for them when they are older is one of the most loving acts a child can do.  There wasn't even a question of what to do or how much of it - she just rolled up her sleeves and jumped right in feet first.

Given the above, it is quite obvious that you loved and cared for your children and family very much - for they practice that same love for others daily themselves.  One can tell it just wasn't "said" for the sake of being said, it was both well practiced as well as preached - which is rare these days.  Many a time these days you will hear someone rant about something, but then when the "rubber meets the road" so to speak - they can't walk the talk.  Kim not only walks it, she runs it well beyond the distance of a marathon.

Even when it was obvious you were passing from this world to the next, they each took a last turn to be with you - and then even sang "Amazing Grace".  I know many people who wish they could be in a family like that - and the world needs a lot more people like Howard Salley so we have a lot more families like that.

So rest in peace, Mr. Salley - your family loved you, still loves you and each other, and they are well equipped to carry your loving and caring principles onward for many years to come.

Dear Salley Family,

Howard was a volunteer driver with our agency for  several years.  I will always remmeber his kindness to those he served.  May he rest in peace.
