James "Jim" C. Burke

James C. Burke of Woodbury, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by parents Clifford and Isabel Burke, brother Robert Burke, and grandson Michael Burke II. Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine (Jensen); son Michael (Patty) Burke, daughter Diane (Jay) Dandron, son Jack (Jill) Burke, daughter Susan (Charles) Burdette and daughter Kathy (Tim) Windey; and 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Jim graduated from Marshall High School in St Paul in 1948, University of St Thomas in 1953 with a degree in Physical Education and later earned his Master’s Degree in the College of Education and Human Development from the University of Minnesota. Jim started his career as a physical education teacher with the St. Paul Public Schools and was later appointed Physical Education Director at Como Park Junior High School. Jim later worked as Guidance Counselor at St. Paul TVI and retired after 40 years. Jim had a passion for sports and spent many years refereeing college football and basketball games. He was an avid golfer and loved spending winters in Florida with Maxine for over 20 years. After retirement, he and Maxine enjoyed traveling with trips to Europe, Australia, Alaska and the Caribbean. The family would like to thank St. Therese of Woodbury Senior Community, their pastoral staff and Fairview Hospice for their compassionate care.

Interment at Guardian Angels Cemetery, Oakdale. Memorials to University of Minnesota Foundation and St. Therese of Woodbury.
