Passed away with his wife by his side on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Arizona. He was born April 23, 1947 in Thief River Falls. Jim was a very proud Army Veteran with the Armored Cavalry Division stationed in Germany. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and college at NDSU, where he served in the ROTC Program and was a member of the rifle team. He continued his education at Northern Technical School of Business, where he met his wife, Deb. Jim was a freelance court reporter and owner of Affiliated Court Reporters. He had many hobbies and greatly enjoyed skiing, canoeing, sailing, investments, humor, hockey (go Gophers!), photography, adventures (including his trip along Route 66 in his red Corvette), and smoking meat on the Big Green Egg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Web Maves. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Deb; brother-in-law, Chuck (Chris); sister-in-law, Jan (Charlie); his beloved nieces and nephews; cousins; other family, friends, and his special classmates. The family invites you to a Visitation and Gathering at 11am on Friday, April 29 at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Rd, Woodbury, MN with a Memorial Service at 12:30pm. Inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Caring Bridge, Thief River Falls Education Foundation-Wilbert G. Maves Fund, or ACKC: Action to Cure Kidney Cancer.
