Joe was born to Sebastian and Anna Schmitz. Joe was raised on their family farm in Marystown. He attended St. Mary's School, Marystown, Cretin High School and St. Thomas University, St. Paul. Joe was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul in 1976. He was a product engineer at Whirlpool.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores.
Joe will be missed by his children, Robert (Mary Ryan), John, Jim (Diane), and Ann (Jeffrey Herickhoff) Schmitz Herickhoff; nine grandchildren; siblings, Richard, Anna May, and Mary; other family and friends.
Evening Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30 from 4-7 PM with Prayer Service at 6:30 at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 31 at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior at St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church, White Bear Ave. at 3rd St., St. Paul.
Interment at Union Cemetery, Maplewood.
Memorials preferred to St. Pascal’s Church.
