

Preceded in death by husband Wesley Schmer; Father, Howard Hults, Mother Florence Hults; brothers Sam and Gerry Hults; sister, Eleanor Harter; son, Dana Schmer.
Survived by children, Deanna Boyum, Denise (John) Strenger; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Josie grew up in Milroy, Minnesota. She attended Milroy High School and graduated from Lutheran Deaconess Nursing School and eventually the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a nurse in the Navy for 2 years, where she met her husband. They lived in Colorado, eventually moving to New Hope, MN where they raised their three children. Josie worked as an RN at North Memorial Hospital then taught LPN Nursing for 25 years at Anoka Hennepin Technical College. Upon retirement she relocated to Arizona where she served at the VA Hospital another 8 years in order to earn her military retirement. She resided in Arizona until 2016 when she returned to Minnesota to spend time with her family. She was proud of her status as a United States Veteran.
Throughout her years, she was an active member at her church: CCV in Arizona, and Eagle Brook in Woodbury. She made an impact on countless lives during her 87 years, through being a nurse, teacher, friend, and a leader in the Al-Anon community.
Please join us in celebrating Josie's life on August 21, 2024 at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel, 1 Tower Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55111. 9 am Visitation, 10 am Funeral Service. Ice Cream Social to follow and Interment with Military Honors at 12:30 pm at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
