Julie was born in St. Paul to parents Jerry and Marge Telschow. She was the only daughter with one brother, Michael. Julie had two daughters of her own, Brooke and Danielle. She married her husband, Michael Flaherty, in 1994. She grew up in St. Paul and attended Catholic school. Her childhood was typical, and she found her first job as early as she was able at Bridgeman’s Ice Cream Parlor. This began her lengthy involvement in the food and beverage industry.
Julie spent much of her career in the service industry and in her final years as a special education teacher and school board member at Woodbury Leadership Academy. Julie was well-loved and found such joy and fulfillment in supporting not only the students in her classroom, but school wide as well.
Julie served on several boards, involved herself in numerous volunteer affairs and most specifically found a passion serving veterans, law enforcement and underserved populations.
Julie was fiercely independent, a free spirit, kind, and God-loving. She immensely enjoyed her solo adventures. These adventures ranged from a meal at a local establishment, to getting in her car and driving where the roads took her, to hopping on a flight and catching as much sunshine as possible. She left her mark on those around her, whether you were fortunate enough to work with her, volunteer alongside her, or share a friendship with her. Julie was a giver in her community and found value and purpose in making a positive impact wherever she could.
Julie was an animal lover. Her many cats throughout her life, including ones that found her knowing her heart, consistently made appearances in her stories she would tell and pictures she would share. She was very fond of her grand puppy Avery and her granddaughters chickens. She enjoyed her time at Afton Apple Orchard driving a tractor and interacting with the farm animals. Julie was known to feed the birds on beach vacations and even squirrels too.
Julie is survived by her husband Michael; daughters Brooke and Danielle; parents Jerry and Marge; grandchildren Bryce, Ella and Mallory, brother Michael (Kami) and many other loved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
