Kay was the 4th child out of 8 born to John and Nellie Vasecka on March 27, 1919. She was born on a farm near Staples, Minnesota. She went to St. Cloud Teachers College for 2 years (that was all that was required for a teaching degree). She later completed a 4 year degree in education at the University of Minnesota in the 1960’s. After she graduated from St. Cloud she taught in a one room school house in a small town near St. Cloud. Her salary was $75.00 a month and she had to pay $25.00 for room and board. She met her husband, Wally in a biology class at St. Cloud Teacher’s College and they married in 1942. They were married for 59 years. They had three daughters, Vicky, Val and Petey. They moved to Fridley, MN in 1952 where she taught grade school mainly at Hayes Elementary until she retired in 1982. She moved to Stonecrest Senior Apartments in Woodbury, Minnesota in 2012. She loved her family, the Catholic faith, nature, the Minnesota lakes, reading, playing cards, exercise, teaching and traveling. Her family will miss her love, laughter and joy that she gave them.
Many thanks go out to the Stonecrest staff and Optage hospice caregivers for their loving care for Kay during her stay at Stonecrest. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Walter. Kay will be deeply missed by her daughters, Vicky (Ron), Val (Stuart), Petey (Bill); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Emily; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th St. N, Oakdale, MN, Saturday, May 13 at 11am. Visitation will begin at 10am. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to your favorite charity in memory of Kay.
