To Sam’s Family… 
My deepest sympathy to everyone especially his daughter who was so important to him.
Sam and I grew up in the same neighborhood and attended kindergarten at Baker School and eventually Murray High School. 

I never let him forget that he was responsible for me getting my mouth soaped in kindergarten.  At “nap time” as we laid on our little rugs,  he continued to talk to me even though we were reminded repeatedly “No talking.”  When I told him “stop you’re going to get in trouble…” the teacher heard me  brought me  to the cabinet where the bar of soap was kept and I got my mouth soaped! For me it was a traumatic event.  Over the years he’d ask me to repeat the story laughing as hard as he did when it happened. 
He was a wonderful, supportive friend.

When my brother died in an automobile accident, he attended the 2 day wake and mass.  
Then we lost a son and again he was present to lend support to our family. 
I’d been trying to call him starting  in April but could never find him. 
I found out from other Baker and Murray graduates and friends of Sam’s that he was gone.  Certainly confirming we all stayed in touch to some degree. 
The world is a sadder place without him!

Matt was my neighbor and friend for 15 years.  He loved to sit in his garage, smoke a cigar, and chat with anyone who stopped by. In the months leading up to his move, I'd stop over most mornings with my coffee to chat.  I loved to ask him about growing up in St. Paul as my dad was about his age and was a St. Paul kid too.  He knew so many business owners in town!  That he still kept in touch with some of his high school friends was pretty cool too.  I'll miss his stories, his love for life, and his sense of humor.  I hope my girls will be as devoted to me as Jodell was to him in his last months.  Thanks Jodell for trying to let him live life on his terms for as long as possible, and for making the tough decisions when it was time, even when he got mad at you for them!
