Tami called me to let me know of Ray's passing.  He was a very nice man and will be much missed. We would talk, and he would tell me how he was going to beat this illness he had. He has gone home to be with the Lord now and is at peace..no more pain or suffering.His passing saddeness me. I will miss our chats.

My heart is breaking for all of Ray's friends and family. Chris, Brittany: I'm sooooo very sorry to hear about your dad. We lost touch since hockey was done with the boys; but I'm looking at the name plate he made for me right here on my desk at 3M. I don't have to tell you what you already know; but I'll say it again...your dad was a wonderful man. Sending prayers for strength...thinking about you.

Oh what a fight you fought! Just another hiccup you'd say.  Know that we loved you like family and are with you in spirit. I hope you don't tire of my daily talks to you.  I told you you'd be my new angel.  Rest in peace my dear friend, you will be missed beyond belief.

Our sympathy to the entire Westphall family.  Good neighbors are hard to find. Bud & Shirley Westphall and their childred & grandchildren are examples of what family really means. Although we didn't know Ray personally, we knew him through his parents.  We'll pray for strenght & peace for the entire Westphall family in this very sad time in their lives.

My friend Ray. From grade school, standing in the line to go into the confessional, we were yukking it up, like boys do, the priest comes out and gives us the evil eye. I look at you and your pointing at me. And we laugh. To working at the Red Barn, you telling of all your girl friend issues. To you talking me into joining the Marine Corp. Meeting up in Yuma Arizona, making a run to the world famous Palomino Club. I think, you went sober after that one. What a time, what a friend. Semper Fi.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Westphall family.  I first met Ray during Mike Westphall's wedding where I played my first round of golf with them.  My inexperience and poor play made for some great laughs. They got me hooked.  I have enjoyed a number of golf outings with them since.  Whenever Ray would come to Memphis, we would go play a round of golf and enjoy the company of friends and family.  We will very much miss him and will always laugh with the memories.

I had the privilege of attending Saint Columba grade school with Ray, and even though I never had a chance to get to know him beyond that time I will always remember him as a very kind and generous person. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am so glad i had the oppurtunity in knowing ray for thirteen years i met him when i was in 6th grade with brittany he was so funny and a very nice guy he always made me feel welcomed in his house. He was a great father to his kids and a great papa to his grandkids. i will miss you ray but i am so happy you are not in anymore pain or suffer. i know i will always remember you and the funny memories i have of you.

I wish to express my condolence, and say that I respected and shared a friendship with Ray that I will always cherish.  I got to know Ray at Duke when we both became candidates for lung transplant.  The first time I saw Ray was at a lung transplant Introduction program meeting.  You could hear him breathing as he carried two bottles of oxygen on his back.  My first impression was a good one, and I was so right.  He proved to be everything and more than I expected.  We became good friends.  His condition at the time was worse than mine, and he was transplanted probably a month before me.  I was so glad when he was called for transplant, and It was so good to see him without all that oxygen when he returned to rehab.  What a guy, out worked everyone at rehab, and had the love and respect of everyone.  Everyone loved Ray very much, including me.  I remember him visiting me after my transplant while I was still in the hospital.  It really uplifted me and made me feel better.  Ray visited my wife and I at our apartment in Durham during our rehab after transplant.  We talked for several hours, and I got to know him much better, ever increasing my opinion and our Friendship.  I will always remember him, a wonderful person and great friend. Ray, you made a difference in so many people's life.  Thank You!  You will be missed. You fought the fight Ray, Rest in Peace.
