Sally Isabel Jasko, 91, of St. Paul, Minnesota, peacefully returned to God on January 18 at home with her daughters by her side. She was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1932, and was predeceased by her parents Roy Brown and Belle McNani. Sally’s beloved father died when she was 19, and knowing they would be reunited soon gave her great comfort during the transition to her new life. Sally was predeceased by her brother, James Brown, and her beloved great-granddaughter Penelope Jasko. She was recently predeceased by her former husband and good friend, Robert Jasko. She is survived by her loving children, Susan Jasko of St. Paul Minnesota, and Michael Jasko and Nancy (Gregg) Clark of Dayton Ohio. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kathrine (Thomas) Herbert, Christopher (Melissa) Jasko, Matt (Audrey) Jasko, Shannon Clark, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Sally was blessed with many good friends and during her last years she spoke daily with Scotty Henderson.
Sally graduated from Bay High School in Bay Village, Ohio, and attended Greenbrier College in West Virginia. Sally was scouted by the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League for her great arm, and excelled at many sports. She completed training and worked as an x-ray technologist at Cleveland City Hospital. She married Bob and they settled in Lakewood, Ohio. Her young family moved to Endwell, New York in the 1970’s, where she made new friends and enjoyed camping and hiking with her family. Sally was the fun mom, and her home was often populated with assorted teenagers eating her food and playing bumper pool in the family room.
After being divorced, Sally moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked for many years at Charlotte Memorial Hospital before she retired, eventually moving to Saint Paul to be closer to her daughter, Susan. She lived independently (in all ways) at Episcopal Homes, where she was known for her sense of fun. That was most evident at her 90th birthday party featuring cupcakes, root beer floats, and a former Ringling Brothers clown making balloon animals.
Sally was proud of her Irish heritage and loved hearing bagpipes. She was passionate about her sports teams, especially the Cleveland Browns and Guardians. She added the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Lynx to her favorites. She excelled at crafts, and made beautiful jewelry. Sally loved animals, especially her beloved french poodles. Her last pet, Charlie, was the most special. He accompanied Sally everywhere, including riding on her scooter during regular trips to the Arby’s drive-through.
Sally faced struggles in life with unfailing humor and a courageous spirit. She will be missed, but her quick wit and the twinkle in her eye will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
Sally’s funeral will take place on Saturday, January 27 at 10AM in the chapel on the Episcopal Homes campus at 1842 University Avenue West 55104. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Carolina Poodle Rescue, 6705 Union Highway, Pacolet, SC 29372.
