Scott Anthony Long, died unexpectedly on March 14, 2023 at his residence. He was only 57 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Scott was preceded in death by his father Bruce Long and his mother Barbara Long. Scott is survived and missed deeply, by his beloved cat, Kitty. He is also missed by his little sister Susan (Dalen) Gudmunson, his niece and nephews, Natalie, Joshua and Kyle (Kassarah), and great niece and nephew Adeline and Rush.
Scott was born on May 18, 1965, in St. Paul, MN. Scott grew up in Cottage Grove. His childhood, living on the family farm, was an idyllic time in his life which he recalled fondly. Scott graduated from New Life Christian School in 1984. After high school, Scott joined the Navy, where he proudly served his country. Upon leaving the Navy, Scott returned to Minnesota, where he studied at Red Wing Technical College and graduated with a degree in carpentry. Scott established and enjoyed his career at Catco. He eventually settled, and spent most of his adult life living in S. St. Paul. In 2020, Scott moved south to live closer to his remaining family in Austin TX.
Growing up Scott established great memories attending family camp at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp in Clear Lake. As an adult, Scott enjoyed a variety of trips, often traveling with his parents. When home, Scott found much pleasure cooking delicious recipes. He had a particular fondness for the taste of cheese and bacon. But most of all, Scott enjoyed having the company of a cat around his home.
In the summer of 1996, Scott discovered he had Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. For the next 26 years, this cruel thief slowly stole his muscle fibers, robbing him of his strength. His worsening symptoms resulted in countless challenges, the loss of his career, hospitalizations, and eventually his ability to walk. The disease challenged Scott’s independence, but to the end, Scott took pride in living on his own.
Please join us in celebrating Scott’s life, in the St. Paul area, on what would have been his 58th birthday, May 18, 2023. Visitation will begin at 4:30pm until time of service at 6pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury, MN. Private family burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, MN.
In lieu of flowers (or birthday gifts), the family requests donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a champion in fighting the cruel thief of Muscular Dystrophy.
