Mrs. Burtman you were always such a cheerful lady, when i saw you at church. We will miss you terribly. Thanks for all your wisdom that you filled my head with. It was great to see you in May Ill be praying for the family. Our prayers and Condoiences are with your family

Shirley was such a sweet lady. We only knew her for a couple weeks while she and my mom were room-mates at the transitional center but she made an everlasting impresson on us. Mom loved Shirley reading her passages from the Bible each night as much as Shirley loved reading them. They had so much in common, both were from small towns in northen Minnesota and both had children that worked for the Post Office. They had lots to talk about and share. So wonderful of her son to bring mom a rose and tell her that Shirley went home to be with her Lord. We offer our condolences to her entire family at this time of sorrow.

Grandma, I miss you terribly. It was so nice to see you the Thursday before you went to be with your Lord. Webley and I were showing you pictures of summer. You always said that we were way too busy! I am so thankful that I was able to live so close to you and that I was able to have most Fridays off so that I could come visit with you. I always had to make sure that we got you to get your hair done and made sure you had bananas in your house! You would then make me lunch...most of the time a tuna sandwich with a pickle and tea! (And it was the best Tuna sandwich ever) I loved talking to you about the Lord. You were the one that made me realize that I was a sinner and needed a Savior. You took me to Awana and always rubbed my back in church. When you were in the physical therapy center you told me that you would read your Bible to your room mate every night. Oh what an encouragement! We were just talking the other day about how when I was little and would sleep over we would go to the Sunray shopping center. I would be able to spend a couple dollars at the dollar store and then we would go to the pet store. You bought me my first hamster! I miss your phone calls and hugs. I love you so much, but I am thankful that you are with your Savior! Love you, Grandma!

Burtman Family: Shirley is now seeing Jesus and the rest of her family who has gone before her.  The ones she left behind will miss her until we meet again.

 You will be greatly miss by me and my family. Your the best example of what a neighbor should be. We were always lucky enought to get a warm plate of some yummy dessert you just baked or new recipe you tried. You went out of your way to invite me and my mother in law to the churchs Mother's Day Tea Party each year and helped remind me how important it is to have faith in your life. 

Words can never say how greatful I was when you made the curtians for my boys nursery, meals when I came home from the hospital(both times) and the gifts you gave them at birthdays. You were alway my grandma across the street. 

P.S Your hair looks wonderful and your make-up is flawless.

Very sorry for your loss, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Grandma Burtman, what I remember the most was her constant devotion to Grandpa Burtman! She showed a unconditional love and was faithful, that is very hard to duplicate these days, and I hope that I may show the same to my wife, based on the example I saw growing up! 

I'm thankful for Grandma, and her love for the Lord. Every time you would go over to the house, she would have WCTS, a Christian radio station on. All I knew of when I was a kid was secular radio stations. 

Things I remember: 

The cleanest house ever. I think Grandma vacuumed the house 3 times a day. 

The best cook ever. Grandma, would feed you from the moment you walked in to her house, till you reached your own house. Man did I love to eat when I was over there! And the best part was, you could have anything you wanted, Grandma would cook it for you. 

One memory, I will never know,is when I would stay over, I would go to bed, and it would be late. I would fall a sleep, and wake up an hour or 2 later. She would still be up, some times relaxing. My memory wonder: Did Grandma ever go to sleep? lol She went to bed after me, and woke up before me. 

Im sure I could go on, and on, but I wont. All I know is, I will miss you Grandma, and cannot wait to see you again, you are in the presents of the Lord, and Grandpa is up there w/ you. I love Grandma. Thank you God for a wonderful, and blessed woman!

I am so glad that we stopped by to visit you a few months ago!  I remember your hugs and your kindness.  Shawn grew up observing your homemaking skills and he taught them to me!  Thank you for being a faithful wife and mom.  I am excited for you that you can be with your husband again! Shawn has been crying all day.  He sure loved his grandma!

So sorry to read about Shirley, she was our neighbor for a few years, made the best chocolate zuchinnie bread I ever tasted!

The Hope Christian Academy family mourns the loss of this dear saint, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In the few years that we've known her, she has been a sweet, godly testimony and a wonderful support to her family and the school.

Grandma,

I was so fortunate to grow up with such wonderful grandparents.  I loved spending the weekends with you both.  Many of my childhood memories involve you and grandpa.  I enjoyed all of the adventures that you two took me on.  I also had fun just hanging around your house.   I love your cooking.  There is nothing that compares to your home cooking.  Thank you for your love and for taking care of me.   

I remember grandpa taking us to the school to fly kites.

I remember the trip we took too Duluth where I got to pet a tiger. 

I remember how you would have me set the table and I would eat almost all of your pickles before everyone even sat down. 

I remember the smell of toast being toasted before you would set it down in front of me with your homemade raspberry jam on it.  

I remember stumbling out of my room in the morning to be greeted with the scent of your flat pancakes and sweet syrup. 

I remember how smooth and warm your chocolate pudding was. 

I remember how you would make squash just for me.

I remember when you took us to the man made lake by our house. 

I remember when you took us berry picking and I made homemade jelly.  Unfortunately, I caught a cold so no one would eat it.  

I remember how grandpa helped me build the covered wagon my dad got me on our trip to Colorado. 

I remember the igloo grandpa build me for Christmas.

I remember the goal grandpa made me for the ice rank.

I remember how steep your front lawn was when I would mow it.

I remember how grandpa went to the Mall of America to get me a lego set.  Despite the fact that he was supposed to be at the doctors. 

I remember how you drove me all the way to the Mall of America only to turn around and drive me home because I wasn't feeling well.

I remember the beautiful deck grandpa built.  I enjoyed sitting out there.

I remember slicing my toe open on the workout bike.  

I remember cutting my finger on a carrot slicer when I was helping you with a garage sale.

I remember on the ride home from church you would stop by burger king to get me a big mac.  

I remember how you grew rhubarb in your garden and all the yummy things you made with them. 

I remember dressing the dog in doll clothes.  

I remember the music you always had playing in the house. 

I remember all of grandpas tanks he built in the basement.  

I remember being scared when I had to spend the night down in that room.  

I remember playing pool on the pool table in the basement. 

I remember when you got the call from the hospital about Kyle having down syndrome.  I remember how you gently explained it to me. 


Thank you for all of these memories.  You are always in my heart.

Grandma you will be missed tremendously until we meet again.  I will miss our conversations on the phone and visits.  I will always remember your hospitality, your cooking (who doesn't), and most of all your love for the Lord.  I am going to miss our time/visits together the most.  I loved hearing about your family growing up and all about the legacy you and Grandpa have created together.    I know you are with your honorable king and are no longer suffering but that doesn't take away the pain I feel when I know I will not be able to just call you up and chat like I used to. Give Grandpa a HUGE hug for me as I miss him too. Love you always.
