Born on April 16, 1955 in Mason City, Iowa, Bill approached life with love for his family–human, canine, and feline, but especially his wife, Anne, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Throughout his life, he also embraced a wide-ranging curiosity about the world around him and a passion for tinkering with all things electronic, in particular. A graduate of Luther College and retired actuary, Bill viewed the world through a mathematical lens, but was also incredibly creative, artistic, and musical. He loved playing guitar and banjo, spending time by the lake, and fixing anything and everything that he thought could be improved or made more efficient. Though a homebody by nature, Bill also loved adventuring across the country and around the world with Anne during their retirement. Wherever he went or whatever he was doing, Bill marked each moment with a dry wit that could be seen in his love of puns, made up alternative lyrics to popular songs, and perfectly timed movie quotes. All three brought about trademark grins that slowly spread across his face.
Bill will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Anne, daughter, Jessica Sollohub (Stephen) and son, Benjamin (Rachel), as well as his brother Tom, sister, Betsy Dimarco (John), and numerous other family and friends.
According to his wishes, the family will be holding a private celebration of life by invitation, but the family appreciates your love and support during this time. For those wishing to honor Bill's memory, the family requests that people consider donating to ALS.org or Team Gleason for ALS research to find a cure or alternatively, Second Chance Rescue or Coco's Heart Dog Rescue to help support the four-legged friends in need that Bill loved so much.
