Don Siegal was born in Chicago, Illinois. His family later moved when he was a small child and he grew up and graduated from Lutheran High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. Don then entered the Pre-Dentistry Health Science program at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Don then continued with his graduate education at Washington University School of Dentistry in Saint Louis, Missouri and was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
Don had a strong calling to become a United States Navy dentist. He enlisted and became an officer in the Navy Dental Corps. After displaying distinguished service, Don was prestigiously selected by The Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery board to enroll in a specialty postgraduate education and training program as being administered by the George Washington University School of Medical and Health Sciences. Don excelled in his focused studies and graduated with a postdoctoral periodontics specialization after completing his clinical residency training and specialty utilization tour of duty.
Don enjoyed his military order travel assignments over the decades of his Navy service. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed train travel vacation trips.
Don was a dedicated career military member and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Even after Don retired from the military, he still volunteered his medical services on base. His service passion led him to be recognized by earning a national volunteer of the year award from the U.S. Navy.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Wallace and mother Emma (Rehling) McDonald, partner William “Bill” McKinnon, step-sister Joan (McDonald) Costello, step-brother and step-sister in-law Richard and Carolyn (Caputa) McDonald, and step-nieces Pauline McDonald and Marie (Costello) Schroeder.
Don’s memory lives on through his family of cousins, step-nieces, step-nephews, great step-nieces, great step-nephews, and all of his dear friends and faithful community members. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Those who knew Don will remember him for his vast knowledge and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading his faith to everyone he encountered. He had a unique gift for making others feel welcomed, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Although Don's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Don, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
A graveside memorial service to celebrate the life of Don E. Siegal will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 before his burial at Lemoore Cemetery; 1441 N. Lemoore Avenue, Lemoore, CA 93245.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Don E. Siegal to Saint Clair Mission Roman Catholic Church in Three Rivers, CA.
A Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Don E. Siegal will be held at a later date.
