Ruben was loyal, supportive, kind-hearted, and giving. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a persevering spirit, and a brave, accepting heart. He touched many lives through his generosity, creativity, and quiet strength.
Ruben was born in Exeter, California, and attended Woodlake public schools from preschool through 12th grade. At just eight years old, he began working a paper route, already showing the responsibility and determination that would remain with him throughout his life. As a teenager, Ruben and his friends formed a breakdance group and competed together — fierce competitors who built lifelong friendships along the way.
In the early 1990s, Ruben earned his commercial truck driver’s license and began his career as a truck driver. Outside of work, he was deeply creative. He spent countless hours designing and building award-winning, distinctive bicycles and crafting handmade jewelry, often selling his work simply to help others in need.
Ruben also found great joy in baking and making sweets. He added his own personal touches to everything he created and was especially known for his famous cheesecakes, which friends and family frequently requested. But for Ruben, it was never just about the food — it was about connection. Every year, he lovingly helped prepare traditional tamales side by side with his family, creating memories that will live on forever.
Ruben is survived by his mother Belen, sisters Sally and Connie, daughter Alissa, his beloved “grandbaby,” Sophia, whom he loved beyond words and held close to his heart.
We are deeply grateful to our family and friends for the remarkable love and support shown during this difficult time. We also thank God, who has given us the strength to endure our broken hearts.
One of our mother’s favorite memories is of making tamales with Ruben — just the two of them — while he would always play the song “Más Allá del Sol” on his phone.
Más allá del sol
Más allá del sol
Yo tengo un hogar
Hogar, bello hogar
Más allá del sol
Ruben’s love, laughter, and spirit will forever remain with us.
