A Life of Faith, Strength, Love, and Devotion

Altagracia Castillo (Mirita) was born on January 21, 1928. Her story began in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her parents Altagracia Castillo and Jacinto Catalino had four children. She had nine more siblings on her dad’s side. She grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, care, and resilience. She led by example, showing love and dedication to her family throughout her life. A woman of unwavering faith and deep love for God, she walked faithfully in all she did.

In 1965, Altagracia migrated to the United States, bringing with her the courage, traditions, and determination of her Dominican roots. Like many who begin again in a new country, she worked hard, adapted with grace, and built a life grounded in perseverance and hope. Her journey reflected both bravery and faith in a better future for herself and her family.

Altagracia was a talented seamstress in the States and a proud businesswoman in DR. Through her work, she used her hands not only to create, but also to provide. Her craft, discipline, and entrepreneurial spirit stood as a testament to her independence and dedication. She understood the value of hard work and carried herself with dignity in everything she did. Her dream was to become a ballet dancer; however, she fell in love and decided to form a family and instead dedicated her life to her children.

Above all, Altagracia was a devoted mother who raised ten children, and her motherly love extended even beyond those she gave birth to. She also took Daniel into her home and heart, a reflection of the generosity that defined her life. Daniel was her cousin who had lost his mother at a young age. Her home was open to others, offering a place of welcome, comfort, and belonging to family, friends, and anyone in need of care.

Her compassion reached beyond her household. On the first Friday of each month, Altagracia would travel to Bayaguana to bring help to the poor, carrying with her not only material support but also kindness, faith, and concern for others. She was also an avid reader who loved reading the newspaper daily and learning, finding joy and wisdom in reading throughout her life.

Her life was one of faith, courage, and love. Doӣa Mirita will be remembered for her Faith, strength, her devotion to family and others, and the legacy she leaves in the hearts of her children: Cesar, Luciano, Jose, Porfirio, Santiago, Cruz, Isabel, Enriqueta, Blas and Ines; grandchildren: Santi, Michel, Judy, Christina, Akil, Leo, Gabriel, Ricardo, Paulita, Eva, Carlos, Jose Alberto, Francis, Melanie, Paula y Ernesto; greatgrandchildren: Alana, Lucas, Alessa, Santi, Valeria, Jordyn, Gabby, Madison, Michael, Oliver, James, Jacob, Noah, Brielle, Penelope, Noah Eli, Crystal, Charlotte, Arianna, Harper, Maximo and Felicia; her relatives all who knew her. Though she is no longer physically present, her love and example remain a lasting blessing. Her unique and lovely smile has been engraved in our minds and hearts.

Una vida de fe, fortaleza, amor, y entrega

Altagracia Castillo (Mirita) nació el 21 de enero de 1928. Su historia comenzó en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Sus padres, Altagracia Castillo y Jacinto Catalino, tuvieron cuatro hijos. Tenía nueve hermanos más por parte de padre. Desde pequeña, mantuvo un espíritu de responsabilidad, fortaleza y entereza que la acompañaría durante toda su vida. Como hermana mayor, sirvió de modelo a toda su familia con el ejemplo, mostrando amor, resiliencia y dedicación. Fue muy respetada por toda su familia, vecinos y conocidos. Fue un modelo a seguir y sirvió de ejemplo a su familia a lo largo de su vida. Mujer de fe inquebrantable y profundo amor por Dios, caminó fielmente en todo lo que hizo.

En 1965, Altagracia emigró a Estados Unidos, trayendo consigo la determinación a que sus hijos estudiaran y fuesen profesionales. El valor de la educación fue inculcado a cada uno de ellos. Las tradiciones de sus raíces dominicanas las mantuvo arraigadas en su entorno. Como muchos que comienzan de nuevo en un país nuevo, trabajó duro, se adaptó con gracia y construyó una vida basada en la perseverancia y la esperanza. Su camino reflejó tanto valentía como fe en un futuro mejor para ella y su familia. Siempre dejando todo en manos de Dios.

Altagracia era una costurera talentosa y una orgullosa dueña de una surtidora. A través de su trabajo, usaba sus manos no sólo para crear, sino también para proveer. Su creatividad, disciplina y espíritu emprendedor eran un testimonio de su independencia y dedicación. Comprendía el valor del trabajo duro y se comportaba con dignidad en todo lo que hacía.

Por encima de todo, Altagracia fue una madre abnegada que crió a diez hijos, y su amor maternal se extendió incluso más allá de los que dió a luz. También acogió a Daniel en su hogar y corazón, reflejo de la generosidad que la definía. Daniel era su primo y había quedado huérfano a temprana edad. En su hogar siempre acogía a alguien que lo necesitara ofreciendo un lugar de bienvenida, consuelo y pertenencia a la familia.

Su compasión iba más allá de su hogar. El primer viernes de cada mes, Altagracia viajaba a Bayaguana para ayudar a los pobres, llevando consigo no sólo apoyo material, sino también bondad, fe y compasión por los demás. También era una lectora ávida que amaba leer el periódico a diario y aprender, encontrando alegría y sabiduría en la lectura a lo largo de su vida.

Su vida fue una plena, llena de Fe, y caridad. Doña Mirita será recordada por su fe, fortaleza, su devoción y amor a Dios, la familia y a los demás. Su legado queda en el corazón de sus hijos: César, Luciano, José, Porfirio, Santiago, Cruz, Isabel, Enriqueta, Blas e Inés; nietos: Santi, Michel, Judy, Christina, Akil, Leo, Gabriel, Ricardo, Paulita, Eva, Carlos, José Alberto, Francisco, Melanie, Paola y Ernesto; bisnietos: Alana, Lucas, Alessa, Santi, Valeria, Jordyn, Gabby, Madison, Michael, Oliver, James, Jacob, Noah, Brielle, Penélope, Noah Eli, Crystal, Charlotte, Arianna, Harper, Máximo y Felicia; y todos sus familiares y los que la conocieron. Aunque ya no está físicamente presente, su amor y ejemplo siguen siendo una bendición duradera. Su sonrisa única y encantadora ha quedado grabada en nuestras mentes y corazones
