Ana “Chea” Peralta, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 23, 2026.
Chea was born on April 5, 1950, in El Rubio, a municipal district of San José de las Matas in the Dominican Republic. She was the seventh of ten children born to Gloria Peralta and Alberto Reyes, and grew up surrounded by her siblings: Simeon, Brigida, Antonia, Luz, Joselo, Argentina, Reina, Nestor, and Ana “Mecho.”
Known affectionately as “Chea” by her family and friends, she built a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and service to others.
A devoted Catholic, Chea was a faithful member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Woodside, Queens, where she served her church community for more than 40 years. Her faith was at the center of her life. Within her family, she was often the one who brought everyone together in prayer—offering comfort, strength, and hope through both joyful and difficult times.
Chea was also a gifted seamstress. She worked at Creative Costumes in New York City’s Garment District, where her skilled hands helped create costumes for some of Broadway’s most acclaimed productions. Her work reflected the same qualities she brought to her life: patience, care, craftsmanship, and dedication.
But Chea’s greatest legacy lives in the people she loved.
She was a beacon of light within her family and community, known for her compassion, empathy, generosity, and deep concern for others. She had a way of making people feel cared for and remembered. Whether through prayer, conversation, or simply being present, Chea gave freely of herself.
She leaves behind her two beloved sons, Percio Bernal and Lenny Bernal, and her cherished grandchildren, Destiny, Jaylian, Noah, Genesis, and Gianna, as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, church community, and many friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
Chea’s absence will be deeply felt, but the love, faith, and compassion she gave so generously throughout her life will remain with all who knew her.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and grace she shared with so many throughout her life.
