Carmine M. Arcabascio, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025 in Coconut Creek, Florida. He was 93 years old. Born on May 24, 1931, Carmine lived life fully—with courage, laughter, and love—and left his family and friends with a legacy of optimism and joy that will never be forgotten.
A proud veteran, Carmine served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he continued his commitment to public service as a firefighter with FDNY’s Engine Company 289 in Corona, Queens. His first fire was the catastrophic blaze aboard the U.S.S. Constellation at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on December 19, 1960—a tragic event that claimed 50 civilian lives and injured hundreds. Carmine faced that fire, and many more during his 30-year FDNY career, with bravery.
Carmine’s defining trait was his joie de vivre - a love of life that informed everything he did and touched everyone who loved him. His eternal optimism was infectious, and he formed lasting relationships across every stage of his life as a result.
Carmine is survived by his loving daughter, Catherine Arcabascio and her husband Scott Mire, grandson, Matthew Murawski and his wife, Ella Wagner, his granddaughters, Jennifer Mire, Alexandra Mire, and Michelle Mire and husband, Stanley Forron II. He also leaves behind three cherished great-granddaughters: Anna Delia, Tessa Frances, and Valerie Christine.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia Doce, and later by his loving partner, Ann Iovino. Carmine embraced Ann’s children and grandchildren as his own—he remained especially close to Paige Saviano Russo and Taylor Saviano Devine, who were in loving contact with “Pops” until his final days.
A funeral mass will be held on May 30, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Jackson Heights, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carmine’s memory may be made to the United Firefighters Association Widows and Children’s Fund at www.ufanyc.org or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org
