

Carol was born on January 27th, 1945 to Richmond and Dorothy O'Connell and raised in Hells Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. She attended St. Michaels Elementary and High School and St. Joseph College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1965.
She and her parents moved to Astoria in 1963 and she has resided at the same apartment since.
Carol began her career as a teacher at St. Patrick's School in Long Island City and St. Bartholomew School in Elmhurst. Besides teaching she coached the girls softball teams of the respective schools.
In 1969 she went to work as a NYC Probation Officer, rose to Branch Chief and retiring in 2002. During her tenure there she coached numerous basketball teams including Outlaws and Aim High-teams she started to reach troubled youth and help them find a better path in life.
She continued to work as Athletic Director of the Variety Boys & Girls Club until 2012 giving opportunities to numerous children living in the near by housing developments.
She received numerous awards and recognition from her career and the community she served. One prestigious award bestowed on her was the NYC Public Service award in 1983 which included a $5,000 grant.
She was able to enrich and guide the lives of so many youth- a few even reaching professional level.
She is predeceased by her parents Richard & Dorothy.
Numerous cousins, devoted friends and community members survive her.
