August 9, 1929 – February 11, 2018
Dolores Ann Saluga (nee Wren), born August 9, 1929, died peacefully on February 11, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, FL. Dolores had been visiting Florida for a family reunion, which she attended before her health failed. She was born, and grew up, in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, NY, graduated from St. Michael’s Academy HS, met and married her lifetime soulmate, Andrew Saluga, raised her family and lived more than 60 years in Astoria, Queens, NY, and was a resident for the last two years in Maplewood at Danbury, a senior living community in CT. Dolores was very strong in her religious faith, and a practicing Catholic up to her death. She thoroughly enjoyed her early morning cup of coffee, her Irish heritage, walking to almost anywhere, watching Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods, sharing dessert with almost anyone, and spending time with her family. Admired for being warm, caring, and fun, she had a mischievous way that was endearing, providing laughs to all. Her tastes were simple, but her opinions were firmly, and fiercely, hers.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Agnes Wren; by her husband of almost forty-one years, Andrew, Sr.; by her brother, Martin Wren, and her sister, Agnes Cully.
Dolores leaves many grieving survivors. She was the loving Mom of Andrew, Jr. and Susan Saluga, Richard and Eileen Saluga, Raymond Saluga, and Carol and Vincent Ruggiero. She was beloved Nanny to her grandchildren Drew, Scott (and partner Jhoselyn), and Colin Ruggiero, and Cheryl & Charles Settens, and Granny to Dave & Jeanine Chmela, and Rich & Shelley Chmela and their sons, Cameron and Lucas. Also cousin Adelaide Coughlin, ‘Aunt’ Teresa Kelly, and sister-in-law Dorothy Saluga. Dear Aunt ‘Do’ will be deeply missed, and never forgotten, by her numerous nieces and nephews of the Cully, Greer, O’Connor, Onoshko, Saluga and Wren families. Dolores will be remembered by her friends and family far and wide, especially those from the Astoria and Most Precious Blood communities and the residents and staff at Maplewood.

And we encourage you to enjoy an Amaretto Sour, or the beverage of your choice, or a nice, hot plate of chocolate-chip pancakes in her memory.
