I just happened upon Mr. Mack's obituary; very shocked and saddened to hear of this.  I worked as his Secretary at the Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, which used to be on 85th Street and Third Avenue in NYC back in 1987.  Karen f/k/a Koopman.  I remember him always being a very nice gentleman who would always take the time to talk to you.  My condolences to all who knew and loved him.

It was just about this time in 1995 when we joined SCI and Steve was one of the reasons we felt so good about the merger.  He played golf with me in Deerfield and joined us for dinner. If I need anything from SCI it was Steve I called.  Steve was a funeral director and that made him so important to SCI.  We will all miss him but not as much as you and your family.  I only met Steve a couple of times. He was a gentleman. My condolences to his family.

Steve was one of the first SCI executives I met after coming to the company in 1997 as the result of my compamy being acquired by SCI.

He and I quickly developed what I call an "elevator" relationship because that is where we saw each other and conversed more than any other way.  Steve was always very gracious and attentive.  Additionally he was always quick to be complimentary and thankful for our work and extra efforts on projects that were important to the company in an operational or financial way.  I have several very comlimentary and supportive notes and letters from him.  They will always be a cherished part of my memories of SCI.

Steve always lead by example in being a great "people person" and in gving credit to others.  I will miss seeing him and the occasional "elevator conversation" very much.

I was so sorry to hear about Steve's passing. I first met him in 2000, when I was in Houston for Dignity training. He was a wonderful leader and very knowledgeable. He will be missed by all of SCI.

How well I remember my trip to Houston several years ago to train for VFW seminars. Although I had never been to the home office before, I was treated as an old and valued friend by everyone there, especially the legendary Steve Mack. I was just a peon from Florida, but how much I valued the kind and friendly treatment Steve showed me. Rest in peace, my friend.

I was surprised to see the passing of a true Icon and leader.  He worked tirelessly to turn up a notch our company's performance.  I am glad to know that he was a part of my life as part of the union of Service Corporation International.  I'm sure he represents the best of funeral service.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve on a Senior level at SCI. Steve was a great leader an inspired intense loyalty from those he was privileged to lead. His contribution to the growth of  both the people who worked for him and SCI has been significant. His dedication to Funeral service and the families we serve was unparalleled. HE will be missed.

Mr. Mack was such an incredible influence on my career in the funeral industry and instrumental in my career here at SCI. I met him while I was still in mortuary school and participating in the SCI scholarship program.  I wasn't necessarily interested in pursuing a career with a corporate funeral home, but after hearing him speak so passionately and give such a vision for where the industry was going and how SCI would be part of that vision, I knew I had to be a part of this company.  The interest that he showed in us students, just starting out in the profession, speaks to his investment and commitment to the future of our company and our industry.  I so appreciate his time and effort in making our company what it is today, and what it will be in the future.  His family has my thoughts and prayers of the loss of this irreplaceable man.

SCI lost a great man I know him and I had an excellent opinion of him.
He was a strong worker an excellent person I don't have words just one gratitude.

I am very sorry to hear about Steve's passing.  He was much higher than I am on the organization chart but he always had a presence whenever he entered a room.  If there was a newcomer to the company and they came into contact with him, they would ask, Who is that?  He looks like someone important.  And, the answer from the SCI veteran would be, Oh, that's Steve Mack, he is important.

Although I did not personally know, Mr. Mack, I did have the pleasure of meeting him at the Managing for Excellence course in Houston during the summer of 2011.  It was great to see a senior executive from our company take the time out of his extremely busy schedule to meet and greet location managers and GM's.  He gave us words of encouragement and reinforced the value our of our leadership at the location level and what it means to our company as a whole.

I interacted with Steve a number of times and he was always such an inspiring leader and the definition of class. The SCI family lost a great leader and even better person. My prayers go out to his family and all who knew him.
