We have known each other for over 60 years. The last twenty or so our only contact was by phone as I live in Toronto. How I looked forward to our calls!
Ibelise would have me in stitches Time After Time as she told me funny stories from her daily life. Most of them revolved around the Stray Cats that she and Ivan "adopted".
She fed and cared for the backyard cats who could enter a downstairs spare living room complete with sofa by a cat door. Once not too long ago a raccoon joined in!

 Ivan fed the front yard cats and he often had to shoo them out from under their vehicle.

I so enjoyed all of our hilarious long-distance "visits".
I will truly miss Ibelise and our many virtual get-togethers.
Like ripples on a pond her laughter will spread out around me for years to come.
May the many happy memories her family will have of her give them comfort.

Pedro would be agreeing with all of the above if only his dementia allowed it.

I met Ibe in 1988 when I travelled with my wife and her family and my mother to Quito. It was basically a gathering of the family - all the León-Baqueros  were together again - likely for the last time.
Ibe - now my 2nd cousin by marriage - was charming, funny and ready to enjoy life. It was a pleasure and one I was lucky enough to enjoy a number of times over the years when the families' paths crossed. I wish her eternal peace and happiness and send my love and prayers of support to Ivan, Marcelo, Dina, Eve and Max. Peace.

Many years ago, Ibelisse and her mother, Tia Blanca visited my branch of the family in Toronto, Canada. I recall marvelling at their quick and clever humour. Elaborate word play was delivered at a rapid pace, with twinkling eyes and much laughter. The blend of eloquent Spanish and New York accented English  was dizzying!

They brought us hostess gifts on that visit, quality glassware I use to this day. The leaf impressed bowl for salads, the smaller fluted bowls with lotus blooms embossed underneath breakfast each morning. I am reminded of my Ecuadorian heritage and two bright, courageous women who built a good life for themselves in America... I honour the memory of Tia Blanca and her daughter, my cousin Ibelisse.
