Joann Lucretia Ianniello, 68, of Astoria, New York, passed away on February 4th, 2022. Joann was born on July 26th, 1953, to Joseph and Anna Ianniello in New York City. After spending her early childhood in Harlem, her family moved to “The House” in Astoria. Joann was very bright and skipped the 8th grade; after graduating from LIC High School in 1970 she earned a degree in childhood education from Hunter College in 1974. Soon after, she was accepted into a special postgraduate education program at Emerson College in London. Joann loved The Beatles, and Herman’s Hermits and thought it would be fun to live in England; it was the best time of her life where she made lifelong friends and memories.
Following her passion for her faith and teaching, she devoted her life to being an educator and CCD instructor, serving for all three parishes in Astoria. Her energy was bright and beautiful, and she had a lasting impression on her students well beyond their time spent together.
Joann left her sparkle on the lives of everyone she met, radiating love, kindness, generosity, and compassion. She was a loyal friend, confidant, and advisor. She believed in angels, loved to write, cook, travel, sing and dance. She loved Halloween, dressing up every year as a good witch to excitedly hand out candy. She made everything feel magical and special, just like her soul.
Joann is survived by her loving family, her brother, Dominick, sister-in-law Carol, niece and nephews Gina, Daniel, Paul, great niece and nephews Hailey, Brayden, Ryan, her Aunt Yolanda, her many Godchildren, dear family, and cherished friends. Joann’s family was the joy of her life and being an Aunt and a Fairy Godmother was her favorite of all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and we know she is watching over us as our Guardian Angel.
Her family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to a charity of your choice, as she loved to support those around her and causes that mattered most to them.
