John was born June 16, 1939, to Mary (Bednar) and George Megella of New York City. He is predeceased by his parents and great niece Theresa Herbert. He is survived by his sister, Anne Herbert of Bremerton, her sons – Lawrence Herbert(Rosemarie) and Francis Herbert(Marlene), and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
John served in the Navy enlisting in 1958. He was honorably discharged in June 1960. Returning to civilian life John became a New York Court Officer and a Hospital Security Officer.
John was a very generous and caring person. Even though he was a lifelong bachelor, he did have an extended family that he cared greatly for. His neighbors were that family. He was an avid cook and enjoyed sharing meals with all of his neighbors and watching out for them. He was a very special person, that will be sadly missed.
