You were my last remaining brother but its with great sadness I say goodbye today.

I still remember your first steps by the heart in Kilnamonagh, pushing the tongs in front of you, ploughing your own furrows around the kitchen. I will always remember the good times we shared the laughs we had and your football heroics on the fields around Shrule and Mayo.

You decided to depart the Emerald Isle and head for the bright lights of New York- you brought a tear to my eye that day back in 1964 when you left Shrule to head to New York. 

I always looked forward to your return trips or to hear your voice on the phone, when we could spend hours talking laughing and reminiscing about the good days in Kilnamonagh & Shrule. But my heart is heavy with sorrow and my eyes filled with tears as I realise that I will not hear your voice again or see your smiling face.
