Luis Manuel Barbosa Fantauzzi, 79, of the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025. A proud U.S. Army veteran, devoted father, and beloved member of his community, Luis lived a life defined by strength, service, and unconditional love.
Born on December 1, 1945, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Luis answered the call to serve his country with honor and integrity. His time in the U.S. Army shaped not only his discipline and dedication, but also his deep sense of purpose and gratitude for life's simple blessings.
After his military service, Luis devoted himself to his family - the true center of his world. A hardworking handyman, talented conga and timbale player, and former boxer. Luis brought energy and determination to everything he did. He was the proud father of eleven children, whom he raised with patience, humor, and unwavering guidance. His home was always filled with laughter, music, and the kind of wisdom that only comes from a life well-lived.
Luis was known for his kind heart, sharp wit, love of storytelling, and devotion to his faith. Whether lending a helping hand, sharing a quiet conversation, or offering sage advice, he touched the lives of all who knew him.
Luis was predeceased by two children: Luis Manuel Barbosa Jr. & Luz Delia (Lucy) Barbosa and survived by nine children: Luis Angel Barbosa, Angélica (Angie) Barbosa-Idowu, Julia (Julie) Martínez-Cannon, María Barbosa (China FBI), Luis Guillermo (Kiddy) Barbosa, Daisy (Tuti) Barbosa, Venessa Barbosa, Melinda Barbosa, and Caridad Barbosa; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
As his wishes while with us were to return to his late wife Carmen, Luis will be cremated and his ashes be laid to rest with her in Isabela, Puerto Rico.
Luis's legacy of love, service, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
