Maria Stroligo

It is with great sadness to say our beloved Aunt and Sister has passed away in Astoria, NY on July 19, 2012, one day before her 85th Birthday. Maria was born in Nova Vas, Croatia on July 20, 1927 to the parents of Antonio and Antonia Muzetich. She came to the United States in the late 1960’s and settled in Brooklyn. Maria was a devoted wife to the late John. Beloved sister of Avelina Jurman and Albert Musetich. Loving aunt of Mario & Basiljka, Gino and Mae Ann, Silvana and Neven, Robert and Helena, Frank and Allison. Cherished great-aunt of Sebastian, Julian, Julia, Matthew, Eric, Conner, Christopher and Teddy.

Aunt Maria was always self-reliant and wouldn’t ask for help, we think she didn’t want to burden anyone – she was our rock! Aunt Maria didn’t have any of her own children, but she loved her nieces, nephews and their children very much. Actually, she loved children in general. She was a big part of the lives of her nieces and nephews taking care of them in Nova Vas as well as in Astoria and Brooklyn when their mother needed her help. Then, when her niece Silvana had her sons, Sebastian and Julian, Aunt Maria and her sister,Avelina took care of their day-to-day needs while Silvana and Neven were at work. Silvana once asked her mother why she and Maria always watched over them, Avelina said she was afraid to take care of them by herself – If you knew the boys, Sebastian and Julian when they were young, you would have agreed.

THANK YOU Teta Maria – I recently told you THANK YOU but I wanted you to hear it again. We all will miss you so much – rest in peace.
