

Michael was a graduate of University College Galway (1975). He devoted his professional life to medicine and neurological research, working at leading institutions including Massachusetts General Hospital, UCLA, Stanford University, and Columbia University. He served as Associate Professor at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and held senior academic and research positions throughout his distinguished career in neurology.
Michael was widely respected for his intellect, curiosity, and lifelong dedication to learning. He had a deep interest in literature, philosophy, science, and the arts, and was known for his thoughtful nature and reflective approach to life. He was also known for his compassion and his commitment to understanding and alleviating human suffering through his work in medicine and research.
He is survived by his brother, Seamus Walshe; his sister-in-law, Máire; his nieces and nephews, Fidelma, Deirdre, Seamus, Aedán, and Fionnuala; Aedán's fiancée, Mary Rose; and the spouses of his nieces, Phil, Jaems, and Jack.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Sebastian's Roman Catholic Church on July 3, 2026 at 10:45am. The service will be live streamed on the church website.
