Miriam’s parents, Samuel and Florence Herman, were Jewish immigrants from Lithuania who came to Ellis Island and settled in Rochester, NY. The Hermans had two daughters, Alice and Miriam. Miriam’s father worked as a tailor and her mom worked in a factory as a seamstress. Her parents were not religious and only attended Temple on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Miriam loved her family and when her parents and sister became ill later in life, she took care of them until their passing.
Miriam was born in 1926 and born again in 1968 when she recognized Jesus was the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the World. She put her trust in Him and was baptized by immersion in June of 1971 by the American Board of Missions to the Jews.
Miriam joined Calvary Baptist Church in June 1979 where she was active in several ministries right up until her passing. She faithfully attended the Sonlight Prayer Group, Pizza and Precepts and Women’s Friday Bible Study. She also prayed regularly with a small group of friends each Sunday morning behind the pulpit for God’s Word to go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit. Miriam’s life was marked by the Gospel and prayer. In addition to all this, Miriam still found time to actively volunteer with the Red Cross.
Miriam was an extrovert who was energized by people and saw opportunities to share the gospel wherever she went. She had a great sense of humor, a warm and feisty personality, and was loved by the many who knew her. Miriam leaves behind so many brothers and sisters in Christ who celebrate her home-going, knowing she’s in the presence of the Lord.
