Reserved and logical are trademark qualities that friends and family might use to describe Ollie M. Coger. Ollie was an intuitive person. She was the type of person who could comfortably get lost in her thoughts, someone who had tremendous problem solving abilities, conscientious and focused on details. Ollie was a person who loved to imagine the possibilities of life.
Ollie was born on March 4, 1953 at Harlem Hospital in NYC. She was the daughter of Charles, Sr. & Claudia Coger. She was raised in Astoria Queens with six siblings: Elneta, Charles, Jr., Randolph, Michelle, Maureen and Richard.
During High School, Ollie excelled at the challenge of learning and was especially good at taking tests. She graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in 1971. She earned her Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from New York City Community College in 1974 and in 1975 her dietician certification.
Ollie was blessed with one son Joel Daniel Scott. Joel always knew how much Ollie loved him.
Ollie was employed by New York State Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer for twenty-five years, retiring in 2007.
Ollie's strong sense of faith helped her remain focused on the needs and concerns of others. These values brought her strength and helped to reinforce the importance of both her faith and the practice of her religion. She was a member of Holy Light Pentecostal Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. During that time she served as a Deacon and then later as an Ordained Minister.
Ollie M. Coger went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2012 at Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC. She is predeceased by one brother, Randolph Coger.
She leaves to mourn her son, Joel Daniel Scott; her mother, father, three sisters, two brothers, nieces, nephews, a host of relatives and friends.
Ollie will be laid to rest in Pine Lawn Memorial Park, located in Farmingdale, Long Island.
