Regina Ann Murphy was born on December 1, 1944, to Patrick J. and Kathleen (Byrne) Murphy, both natives of County Mayo, Ireland. Growing up in Jackson Heights, Queens, Regina attended St. Joan of Arc Grammar School and went on to Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She enjoyed a long career at Verizon (formerly New York Telephone) until her retirement in 2001. Regina was energetic, hard-working, and independent.
Regina was an active parishioner of St. Joan’s, serving as a religious education teacher, a Eucharistic Minister, an officer of the Rosarians, and as a member of the finance committee. She also assisted in counting donations from the weekly collections. She was a member of Angel Society, attending funeral masses for those without surviving family. Regina enjoyed the relationships she formed through the parish.
During her early retirement years, Regina was happy to help many older parishioners. She acted on behalf of those who needed help in making funeral arrangements and in managing their lives, demonstrating patience and compassion. She asked nothing in return. During her final illness, her caregivers spoke highly of her pleasant and cooperative nature.
Regina will be missed by her family, who will remember with fondness the many wonderful Christmas celebrations she hosted. She was the dear sister of Sr. Kathleen Murphy, O.P., Maureen Ade and her husband Ronald, Patrick Murphy and his wife Joyce, and Austin Murphy and his wife Mary. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Thomas Murphy. Regina was the loving aunt of Kerry (William) Worzel, Daniel (Meghan) Murphy, Kristen (Gregory) Damato, Meghan (Gilbert) Hudson, Matthew (Veronica) Ade, Timothy Murphy, James Murphy, and John (Elizabeth) Murphy. She was the proud great-aunt of William, Joseph, Sophia, Quinlan, Luke, Grace, Rory, Elizabeth, Delia, and Callen.
