

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to say Al Hall, 97, of Woodstock, GA passed away as he was called to his heavenly home on March 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving Family. He is survived by his sister Billie Wilson (Robert); two sons, John Hall (Elsa), Michael Hall (Marcy), one daughter, Beverly McBride (Robert); five grandchildren, Matthew Bailey, Clinton Bailey (Jennifer), Nathan Bailey, Christopher Hall, Jenny Kinsey (Jeffrey); one great-grandson, Spencer; step daughter, Linda Raymond (Mark), step son, Glen Clardy (Michelle); step grandchildren, Joseph Raymond, Julia Raymond, Laura Pattillo (Ricky), Meghan Schaffer (Dustin); and three step great-grandchildren, Alan, Asa, and Jesse. Also predeceased by his beloved first wife Mary Hall, of 50 years; daughter, Nancy Bailey (Wally); sister Joan Kullgren (Jerry); and beloved second wife, Buena Hall, of 20 years.
His dedication & passion to serve our country sparked as a teenager when, on his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He wholeheartedly loved God and country and had the utmost respect, deepest devotion & purpose for his nation and all those serving the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Hitting the ground running, he was sent to Great Lakes boot camp, then off to Chicago for Naval Signal Communication and Marine Corp Recon for combat training, and then sent to England to train with the Army Rangers and British Special Forces.
Headstrong in duty & honor, he served with the deepest devotion through two wars .. Signalman SM3C Commando WW2 —D-Day Amphibious Assault Forces in special operations on Omaha Beach in Normandy, he braved front line forces in combat. His devotion was honored by many and was awarded the French Legion Medal of Honor while appointed Knight Sir Alan for his courage, sacrifice and unwavering service. Committed to his call to duty, he followed with deployment to serve in the Korean War, and in his so humble way, he would always say.. the true Heroes are those who never made it back home. He was a very religious man who loved God and serviced his community. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Masons in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later, he joined the Knights of Columbus where he rose to Fourth Degree.
Ensuring the safety of family and country, he felt the need to crusade for justice and found a means to meet this fulfillment through his work to protect & serve in law enforcement as Police Officer in Cincinnati and continued in his endeavor as Private Investigator with Pinkerton, and Deputy Marshal for the judicial system when he & family moved to Atlanta. His passion drove him even further as he participated strong & steadfast in countless events local & nationwide for providing his service in honor of our fallen heroes.
As a loving father, he devoted his life to his family and made countless sacrifices for providing only the very best for the sake of their wellbeing. He would wholeheartedly commit to meeting each of their needs.. their ups, their downs, being a good listener and whatever it took for fulfilling their happiness. His ability to raise & support a well-balanced family as a strong leader and gentle guardian was envied by his friends and fellow parent colleagues! Supporting his family through his business profession in paper box Sales & Marketing, he made the move to Atlanta, GA as result of his promotion to Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the southern region. A leap in his career path launched him into opening a successful print shop ‘Old Ironsides’ in the community of Marietta,GA.. where he pioneered to be the first printer in the entire southeast of the country to have a drive-through Window for his printing business as a result of having bought a Dairy Queen in Marietta, Georgia!
Strong in commitment and with the deepest compassion for his fellow comrades and disabled soldiers, he continued in his loyalty and love for serving our Veterans and all those in need without ever expecting anything in return. He served two terms as Commander of the VFW Post in Marietta, Ga and participated in numerous events as a true patriot for providing dedicated support for all those in need. His mission in service never ended and will never be forgotten.
The countless memories of Al will remain forever in our hearts. His family and friends who loved him dearly will forever feel his impact. Al was a true inspiration proven to be a brilliant light to every soul he’s touched.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 21, 2024, 2:00-4:00 at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St., Woodstock, GA 30188. A service will follow at 4:00. Al will be laid to rest on Friday, March 22, 2024, 11:00 at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, your donations are sincerely appreciated to the DAV Chapter #6, Marietta, GA.
