Anne was born June 11, 1940 in Pittsfield, MA, the daughter of James and Augustina Blewitt.
After graduating high school, Anne started a multi-year fashion modeling career in New York City and Cincinnati, OH where she met Donald Grider.
The pair were married on May 14, 1960 in Dayton, KY and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They had four daughters, Pamela (Mathew Gooden), Lisa, Andrea and Cathleen (John Pantelias), 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who remain to cherish her memory. She is also survived by her sisters Pamela (Tom Toppino), Toni (Jim Dalman) and her three nieces and nephew.
Because of Don’s military service, Anne often found herself in a one-woman show, alone in a foreign country or new state raising their four girls. The daughter of an Army Air Corp Pilot herself, she joked that she was a pro at packing up and moving, with more than 40 moves under her belt throughout her life.
Recognizing the critically sensitive nature of early motherhood, she went on to join La Leche League International, where she was a dedicated and active member for decades. Anne later received her international board certification as one of the first Lactation Consultants, and founded Breastfeeding Supplies and Services, LLC. She was a mentor to countless mothers and other lactation consultants throughout her career.
Anne loved nature walks and bird watching. She especially enjoyed cozying up with the challenge of a thousand-piece mega-puzzle. She was a woman of deep faith, and was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, GA where she was a loyal parishioner for more than 25 years. She was known to play a mean game of bridge, and played with a handful of women from church.
A beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Anne’s heart was devoted to serving others. Her zest for life and tenderness were contagious, and she was full of surprises. Her graciousness and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
