He was born in Jersey City, NJ, in May 1919.
During WW II Langsen served in the Army as an anti-aircraft battalion commander in the South Pacific, attaining the rank of captain. He survived three major landings.
Following his return from the war, Arnold graduated from Ohio State University and later received his PhD from Georgia State University.
Langsen was an officer in several corporations and also served on several boards of directors. He published papers on Modern Portfolio Theory economics in journals of finance and mathematics.
Dr. Langsen’s teaching career included California State University, Hayward, where he was named Outstanding Professor in 1985, and later retired emeritus. He was also a visiting Professor of Finance at UC-Berkley for 5-years.
After retirement Arnold, with the help of his son, developed algorithms designed to improve stock portfolio performance, which remain in use today.
He was also an avid photographer, golfer and a life-master bridge player who enjoyed playing online in his later years.
He survived 2 wives, Edith and Katherine. He leaves his 3 children as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Family Graveside memorial service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA on Friday, April 13. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in Arnold’s name to the charity of your choice.
