Betty Lou Maddox was born in Elko, Nevada on July 29, 1934, daughter of the late Geronimo Castro Gomez and Haydee M. Morieda. When WWII began, her family was called back to Puerto Rico where she lived until she was 16. She then moved to Tampa, FL. At age 21 she married Oscar Malcolm Maddox (Sonny).
Although Betty was an excellent bookkeeper, most of her career was in the banking industry working in almost every department in the bank. After retiring, she served with St Vincent De Paul (in both Florida and in Georgia).
She loved the Hallmark channel, reading books (her favorite, The Girl of Limberlost), and hanging out, laughing and sharing memories with family and friends. She enjoyed sharing her faith and every night during her prayers would recite the rosary. Since she had so many rosaries, she would use a different one each month of the year.
Betty loved worship at the Catholic Church which she attended until moving to Woodstock, GA. She then, began attending Hillside Church with her daughter and son-in-law. She loved her ladies Wednesday bible study and going out to lunch with the girls when class was over.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Sonny, sisters Haydee Carmen and Emma Iris.
Survivors include her children Jerry Maddox (Yvonne), Jim Maddox (Pam), John Maddox (Jil), and Christy Good (David), nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty finally got to meet Jesus on August 18, 2026. She was loved by all those she met, she was so proud of her family. Her smile could light up a room and her positive attitude was inspiring to us all. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St Vincent De Paul.
