

October 16th 2011 Clifton E. Barth, Sr. passed away at 88. He was a WWII veteran who served with the 801st Combat Engineers. He served our country in North Africa, the Azures and England during the Berlin Airlift. He was born in Clay, New York. Clifton retired as a signal maintainer from Conrail. He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years Mavis Russell Barth who he met and married in Liverpool, England. His surviving children are Eileen O’Connor (Vincent) of Woodstock, Georgia, Bonnie VerHeecke (Paul) of Waterloo, New York and Clifton Barth, Jr.(Ann) of South Carolina. Clifton was blessed with eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his eldest son Barry Albert Barth who deceased in 1986 and his two sisters Virginia Gilmore and Marion Schmitte. Clifton had moved to Georgia in 2008 and resided with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Eileen, Vincent, Kyle and Ryan. Clifton was a member of the Marietta United Christian Church. He served as a commander of the Otisco Valley VFW Post 5494 and was a lifetime member of the VFW. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Hillside United Methodist Church in Woodstock. Contributions would be appreciated by being sent to the VFW. A spring burial is being planned
