

Mr. James David Harmon, 78, of Kennesaw, GA passed away April 17, 2015. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Smith Harmon; son Gregory Scott Harmon; son Christopher David Harmon and his wife Jennifer; sister Carolyn Faye Blansett and her husband Frank; and cat, Ray.
David was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Clifton Bryan and Florence Bice Harmon. He is a graduate of West End High School in Birmingham, attended the University of, Alabama and served honorably in the United States Navy.
He worked at Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham but really began his career in Huntsville, AL at NASA. There he worked with German Scientists on the launch equipment for the Saturn Program which took us to the moon.
David moved with his young family in 1966 to Smyrna, GA to start what would be a long career at Lockheed-Martin. While at Lockheed, he traveled as liaison to aircraft customers with repair situations. His travels took him to Ireland, Spain, France, Malaysia, Italy, Oman, and all over the U.S. Including Alaska.
David loved the great outdoors and spent many years hiking the Appalachian Trail with the Appalachian Trail Club, hiking buddies Tom Gulledge, Franz Schubert, Richard Cheney and Mike Futral, and his boys.
He retired from Lockheed in 2011 as a Senior Engineer in the C-130 program.
David enjoyed traveling with his family and friends and enjoyed many cruises and trips abroad. He often traveled to casinos with his wife and was really beginning to enjoy it. In his retirement, he and his wife bowled on two Senior No-Tap Leagues and volunteered with Must Ministries.
His last weekend was a romantic visit to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS, which was a favorite destination.
A celebration of David's life will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home on June 11, 2015 at 2:00pm which would've been David and Pat's 55th wedding anniversary.
