David Aaron Merillat passed away on January 8th, 2024, at the age of 32. With a radiant smile that could light up any room, and a comedic knack for laughing at inopportune moments, Dave’s presence could never be missed, and his absence will never be filled.
From an early age, David had a sunny, lighthearted disposition and, as a child, always preferred games that caused his adrenaline to surge, seeming most satisfied when his stomach leapt into his throat, voicing his approval through richly contagious, uncontrollable bursts of laughter. His appetite for thrills remained throughout his life and as an adult his favorite activities were bumpy rides on the boat, crashing waves on the beach, and long walks. As such, David lived his life like a song, a song that resembled the music he loved, which were primarily inspiring anthems of worship and classic rock; while his favorite song of all was his father’s soulful, somber rendition of Linda Rondstadt’s 1977 pop classic, Blue Bayou.
Throughout his life, David was an active participant at church, most recently in the Shine ministries of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Alpharetta, and he also enjoyed the many programs offered by Creative Enterprises. His greatest contribution to society was the simple, unobtrusive way in which he helped people realize their many blessings just by being and smiling. It is said that actions speak louder than words and for Dave, who could not speak, and whose actions were limited, it may seem that his brief life was a muted existence. The truth is though, he spoke louder than any one and he made the world a better place.
David is survived by his father and mother, Michael and Lisa Merillat, his loving siblings Jeremy and his wife Catherine, Dawn and her husband Charles, and Andrew and his wife Laura, his niece Eloise, and nephews Edouard, Oliver, and Benjamin as well as his devoted nurse of the previous two and half years, Barbara Conrose, and a world of people who love and give thanks more deeply because of him.
