Dave was born to the late Salvatore and Caroline Porfilio in New Castle, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1929 and was one of two children. Dave had worked as an Engineer for Westinghouse for 30+ years ultimately retiring in South Boston, Virginia. He was a beloved member of Hillside United Methodist Church where he remained active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class and other church activities. He served as Sheriff of the Marietta Golden K Kiwanis raising “happy dollars” to support various charities. Dave adored his family and not only lifted their spirits, but also supported their interests. He could always be found at his grandsons’ sporting events cheering them on with the rest of the crowd.
Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dolores Jean Porfilio, who passed in 2010. His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Lisa Hamrock and her husband, Kent, of Roswell, Georgia; sister, Shirley Matey of Canfield, Ohio; grandsons, Kyle and Drew Hamrock; nephews, Donald Matey and Thomas Matey and his wife, Karyn; niece, Carolyn Matey; and his Hillside and Kiwanis family.
Dave’s family will receive friends on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, Georgia 30188. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Hillside United Methodist Church 4474 Towne Lake Parkway Woodstock, Georgia 30189 with Pastor Jim McGraw officiating. Dave will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Roswell, Georgia.
