
Donald Claude Munroe, of Marietta, Georgia, peacefully departed his earthly home on September 20, 2023, at the age of 75. Don reconfirmed his faith in 2019 and became a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Don was born in Waukegan, Illinois on December 11, 1947. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 13, 1968, and served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal Vietnam War and the Service Medal Vietnam Campaign.
Don was passionate about Harley Davidson motorcycles and cars. He spent many vacations enjoying the Daytona Bike Week. His enthusiasm for cars began as a young teen and grew as he tinkered, raced, rebuilt, and upgraded his vehicles. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends going to swap meets, flea markets, and classic car shows. Don will be truly missed for his sense of humor, his love of classic country music, his many years of being Santa Clause, and his all-around grouchiness.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Munroe and Mildred V. Munroe (née McVennon), sisters Donna Martin and Susan Dannible, and brother Ronald Munroe. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Barbara A. Munroe, their children Christine Mize, Donald Munroe, Jr., Kathleen Munroe Behrens, Jennifer Turner, Billie Nelson, and William Munroe, a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Mary (Jeff) Kent, Midge (Steve) Gonyo, Jane (Doug) Ebert, and Sonja Kay Munroe, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Don will be interred with military honors in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 9:00 am. His Christian funeral service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2240 Shallowford Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066.
