Born November 25, 1949 in Leiden, The Netherlands and passed away on May 11, 2021 surrounded by her immediate family in Marietta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Karel, and her two sisters: Annie and Ria Singerling.
She is survived by her brother, Piet Singerling, who resides in The Netherlands; as well as her son, Andrew, and granddaughter, Olivia; who reside stateside.
In 1971, she married her husband Karel van Bohemen in her hometown of Leiden, The Netherlands. Her husband’s job as flower and tulip bulb disease expert brought them to the United States shortly thereafter and in the early 1980’s they settled in Marietta, chasing the American Dream.
Their only son, Andrew, was born in August 1983. Around that time, her husband took ownership of a construction company, D&B Construction Enterprise, Inc. Elizabeth was an integral part of the company, serving as a company accountant and office administrator. Under their thirty-year leadership, the company gained a favorable reputation and became a contractor for the State of Georgia, City of Atlanta, as well as multiple other municipalities.
In her personal life, she was a loving wife, a caring mother, a beloved Grandmother/Oma, and a cherished friend. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, and of course, shopping. While she enjoys all types of music, she especially loved Elvis and Dutch artist, Andre Hazes. In her social life, she and her husband were active members in the Atlanta Holland Club; a social community group of Dutch-Americans, and it is through this club that they built many of their closest, and most meaningful friendships. Her bright smile and charming, warm canter were a welcomed addition to any social gathering. During Karel’s latter years, they enjoyed as much of life as they could together: traveling to see their beloved granddaughter Olivia in Florida, as well as other destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and the United States. In 2017, after residing in The United States for nearly four decades, she proudly became a United States citizen; and voted for her first time in 2020.
