Mrs. Triantis was born on September 19, 1928 in Kallithea, Greece to the late Manolis and Vasilia Garoufalis. Although her biological father passed when she was only 4 years old, her mother remarried and her step father , biological father to her sister Amalia, would lovingly embrace her as his own and become the father that she tragically lost as a small child.
In the winter of 1957, “Hope”, as many called her here in the United States, decided to leave her homeland of Athens Greece and move to the United States to pursue a carrier in Dentistry. And, by early Spring of 1958, she boarded a cruise ship called the SS Queen Federica and headed to Ellis Island NYC.
After arriving in the USA, she went to live with her relatives in Chicago IL where she would meet one of her cousin’s friends. This man would become her greatest adventure and the love of her life, Dinos Triantis. Dinos had also immigrated to the USA a few years prior from Greece. After a brief courtship, they would marry in the summer of 1958. In 1960 she achieved one of her life long goals, becoming a United States citizen.
She would share the next 48 years of her life married to Dinos. Together they had one child in 1970, her son Manolis. Hope would stay married to Dinos until his death, in 2006.
Throughout her life, Elpis had many wonderful qualities and artistic passions. Writing would be her strongest passion. The poems she wrote were about her life’s challenges, lost love, new beginnings and the history of her homeland and the people there. Her poems were published here and in Greece, they would go on to develop a small Greek fan base under her pseudonym “Spez” Triantis. In 1970, the birth of her son and her new appreciation for art would take her in a new direction.
Although her artistic abilities were strong, her art would never be as inspiring or mesmerizing to others as her ability for putting words together in a way that would transcend the reader into her world.
During her last years, and after the death of her husband, she continued to live a very independent life. Her passion for life continued but her focus changed inward, to her family. She looked forward to every moment she got to spend time with her two grandchildren and son, riding on the back of her son’s motorcycle, traveling with her family… but most importantly, watching them grow.
In the end, she passed away, surrounded by the friends and family that she loved and loved her.
Elpis leaves behind her son, Manolis K Triantis; grandchildren, Sebastian K Triantis and Sophia E Triantis; sister, Amalia Nalmpantis; God son Kyriakos Nalmpantis and nephew Anastasios Nalmpantis.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 1:00pm at Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30075.
