

EVELYN MARIE HARTLEY MCDONALD THOMPSON, died on September 21, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born on 5 December 1912 in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of John Herbert Hartley, Sr. and Grace Leavitt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, her husbands Paul Haywood McDonald (1907-1950) and Henry S. Thompson (1892-1972) both of Miami, FL. Evelyn is survived by one sister, Grace Hartley Hatcher Wellons of Hallandale Beach, FL, one son, Paul H. McDonald and his wife, Angie, of Asheville, NC and one daughter, Camilla M. Wagner and her husband Ronald of Woodstock, GA, one granddaughter Kimberly W. Alexander of Duluth, GA and one grandson Steve T. Wagner of Suwanee, GA, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was reared in Jacksonville, FL, Orange, Massachusetts, and Miami, FL. She was proud of her descendancy of the Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims, the Founding Families of South Carolina, and Florida Pioneer Descendents and was also a descendant of the Minorcan “Floridaros” arriving in New Smyrna Beach, FL in 1768.
Evelyn was a woman of unbounded Christian faith, a loving mother of the “greatest generation” rearing her family in the Miami area. She was a Southern Bell employee for over ten years. After the death of her second husband, Henry, in Sebring FL, she migrated to Asheville and Black Mountain, NC and lived there until this year. She moved to Woodstock, GA in February, 2012. She was a member of the Roswell First Baptist Church in Roswell, GA.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, 3260 SW 8th St., Miami at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 29, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Roswell First Baptist Church, Roswell, GA.
