I remember when he was enlisting in the Marine Corp. he had to pass the weight requirement and that meant not going to the bathroom for at least 12 hours while at the same time he had to drink as much liquid as he could to put weight on. During the drive to the recruiting office I tried to miss the bumps whenever I could. We got there and I said, "weight him in - right now". He passed and then we let him go to the bathroom. He did love being a Marine and I was very proud of him.

Gerard was someone I looked up to and admired. We had a lot of talks, I will miss those!! He wasn't just my cousin, he was my friend! I know there were a few things he was proud of and that was being a Marine, and his two beautiful children. Rest in peace cuz!! You will be missed by many!!

When Michelle and I were living in a duplex apartment in Miramar shortly after getting married, 1984, Gerard was in town and stopped by to meet this guy who married his sister. We chatted, had an adult beverage among other things and we parted with the assurance that I would take care of his sister. We saw each other very sparingly throughout the years. I only got to sit with him when he was in Canton at Moms place. Quite a Marine! Semper Fidelis Gerard!
