

She was preceded in death by her father Samuel Courtney Doss, Jr, and her mother Louise Ledbetter Doss.
Helen is survived by her husband of 43 years Michael Geesey, her daughter Laura Wolf, her son Brian Geesey and his wife Kelley, and her grandchildren Carter Geesey and Adelyn Wolf, all of Woodstock, GA. Also surviving are her brother Samuel Courtney Doss, III and his wife Jane of Scottsboro, AL, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Helen was born in Sylacauga, AL. She attended high school in Alexander City and college at the University of Alabama, where she earned her master’s in early childhood education. She was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and numerous other campus activities.
Helen and Mike were married July 19, 1980. They moved to Marietta, GA in 1988 where they gained lifelong friends in their neighborhood community, Chestnut Grove. They were longtime members of Mt. Zion UMC until last fall when they moved their membership to Hillside Church in Woodstock. Helen and Mike owned a cabin in Ellijay for 10 years, where they enjoyed spending quality time with their family and exploring North Georgia communities. They moved to Woodstock in 2017 to be close to their children and their families.
Helen was born to a family of educators and had a passion of educating young children. She was employed at the State and County level in three different states, working to support children with special needs. She became a teacher at St. Andrews UMC preschool in Marietta in 1993 and went on to serve as the director of the preschool for 20 years. Helen was active in the Georgia Preschool Association for 16 years, serving as its President from 2011-2013 and on the board of directors 2007-2022. As part of her passion, she organized large training events for teachers supporting Christian based education for preschoolers.
Helen enjoyed gardening, sewing, bible study, book clubs, traveling with Mike, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
We will celebrate her life with a Memorial Service at Hillside Church, 4474 Towne Lake Parkway, Woodstock, GA. 30189 on Thursday, March 7th at 3:00 pm with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a gift of a children’s book or donation be made to St. Andrew UMC Preschool, 3455 Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30066.
