

James Clayton Henderson, age 92, of Acworth, GA, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 at NorthsideHospital in Canton, GA.Jim was born in 1933 in Ames, IA to Earl Wilton Henderson and Esther Logan Henderson and grew upin East Lansing, MI. He was a graduate of East Lansing High School where he lettered in varsityfootball and wrestling. He was the recipient of an ROTC scholarship to the University of Utah andgraduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his pilot training in the AirForce and was based in Germany for active duty. After finishing his tour of duty, Jim began a 37 yearcareer with the E.I. DuPont Company. He was elected twice as a Township Supervisor in KennettTownship, Chester County, PA serving for 12 years and then was appointed to a four year term as aTownship Auditor. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church, a Boy Scout and IndianGuides leader, a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Clan Henderson Society.Jim had a passionate interest in genealogy and wrote a 400 page self published family history. Hevolunteered to teach others how to research their family histories and also prepared family histories forpeople. He loved woodworking. His family and friends have all been recipients of beautiful bowls andpens - his favorite things to make.Jim married his high school sweetheart, Martha Ann Landon, who passed away in 1999. They had 46years together, living in Parkersburg, WV; Metairie, LA and Chadds Ford, PA. He was the wonderfulfather of: Susan Henderson Figg of Acworth, GA; James Clayton Henderson, II of Birmingham, AL;Ellen Esther Henderson (deceased); Sharon Henderson Bastide (deceased) and grandfather to:Edward Dayton Cornett; Steven Ray Cornett; Robert James Cornett (deceased). Jim waspredeceased in death by his two brothers, Philip Hahn Henderson and Wilton Logan Henderson.He remarried and he and Barbara Hays enjoyed traveling on genealogy road trips and to visit familymembers, including his step-children Robert Tebay, Sara Sherwin, John Tebay, and Jane Davis. Hewas very proud that his research enabled Barbara to become a member of the Mayflower Society. Heand Barbara were married for 22 years until Barbara passed away in 2022. Jim then relocated to GA tobe closer to family.He will have his ashes buried at Longwood Cemetery in Kennett Square, PA next to Martha LandonHenderson and Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV next to Barbara Hays Henderson.In lieu of flowers, a contribution in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
