Mr. James Perry Henderson, 81, of Woodstock, Georgia passed away July 18, 2018. Perry was born on July 9, 1937 in Jasper, Georgia to the late Ima and John C. Henderson. After graduating from high school, Perry joined the United States Navy and honorably served from 1954-1958. Perry worked in the security department at Lockheed-Martin and later became a builder and developer in Cherokee County. He was a founder of the Cherokee Clean Commission and served as a Cherokee County Commissioner. Perry was involved in local youth sports and was a strong supporter for the Boy Scouts. He was also a member of the Sheriff’s Association, Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, and the Cherokee County Republican Party and was very active in political fundraising. Perry was instrumental in providing and distributing hundreds of turkeys during the Thanksgiving season in conjunction with First United Methodist Church of Canton. Although Perry was a very active member of his community, he always made time to be with his family. He was a loving husband, father and a doting grandfather. He will be missed by many friends and his loving family. Perry leaves behind his wife of 58 loving years, Peggy Henderson; daughters, Cindy Camp and Sherry Padgett and her husband Greg; and grandchildren, Dustin Padgett, Chad Camp, Cody Padgett and Lindsey Camp. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Inez Holmes and Eva Jo Turner. A funeral service will be Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will take place at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 2:30pm.
