James "Jd" Hughes

Mr. James “J.D.” Hughes, 84, of Smyrna passed away April 15, 2015. He was born August 26, 1930 in Honea Path, SC to the late James and Minnie Hughes. J.D. was very hard working and took pride in caring for his family. He grew up on a farm and was a true southern gentleman. J.D. also enjoyed working in his yard and on cars and he attended Smyrna Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hughes and his companion for the past 9 years, Veleta Todd. James leaves behind his sons, Donald Michael Hughes and Jerry Lee Hughes, daughters, Debra Jean Dempsey (Jerry) and Brenda Sue Herrin (Jeremy), grandchildren, Ashley, Bailey, Austin, Kinsey and Autumn, great-granddaughter, Jenna, step-son, Anthony Southard and sister, Mary Barnes. A funeral service will be on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9:00am at Woodstock Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 5-9pm at the funeral home.
